The domain
Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Domaine Philippe Gavignet is a family business that has had five generations of winemakers.
Philippe Gavignet, who runs the estate, is assisted by his two children Elodie and Benoit. The estate produces 16 appellations, mainly reds, but also a few whites and a rosé.
The estate has been practising sustainable viticulture for many years, and in 2020 obtained its High Environmental Value (HVE) level 3 certification. Thanks to the immense talent of Philippe Gavignet, the Domaine produces greedy, fruity wines with great ageing potential.
Terroir and breeding
Les Argillats is a climat of 0.65 hectares, planted in 1962. The vines that produce this excellent Nuits-Saint-Georges are anchored on very stony brown limestone soils, with a fine silty-clay texture on cryoclastic scree from white oolite or Comblanchien limestone, resting on Bajocian marl with Ostrea acuminata.
Vinification in stainless steel vats (with cold maceration for 8/9 days) for 18 days, then matured in barrels with 1/3 in new barrels for 15 months.
Tasting notes
Notes of red fruit and black berries, with a fine, silky structure and high quality tannins that will keep for well over 10 years.
To be enjoyed with roasted meats, for example with a good leg of lamb.
