    The domain

In 1972, Charles and Jean Joseph Flandre recreated a family farm of 12 hectares, exclusively classified as Montagny 1er cru, in the south of the Côte Chalonnaise in the hamlet of Montorge, in Montagny les Buxy. The family then produced wines on great terroirs such as "Les Chaniots" or "Les Coères". In 2014, Yann (Jean Joseph's second son) will perpetuate a family know-how that has lasted for 40 years by adding an exceptional climate: Montorge, a monopoly.

Yann Flandre exploits the 12 ha by preserving the grassing of the vines. A beneficial choice in terms of erosion, aeration and soil life. The estate's vines are planted at 8000 vines/ha, which is 20% less dense than in the rest of Burgundy. They are also trellised higher up. A cultivation practice assumed by Yann Flandre. "Work is easier and the vines are better aerated (the estate is on a windy promontory) and therefore less susceptible to disease.

    Terroir and breeding

The vines, on average 25 years old, are located on the Climate of the "Chaniots", which would mean the pebbles. Indeed, this clay-limestone climate is composed of brown earth and flint. The Chaniots are located at the foot of the hill to the south-east of the estate and are close to Jully les Buxy. After pressing in a pneumatic press (favouring gentle extraction), fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats, with 100% malolactic fermentation. The maturing in vats for 10 to 12 months allows a maximum of freshness of fruit and finesse. Yann Flandre keeps the lees in favourable years.

    Tasting notes

The nose presents beautiful mineral notes. Due to the nature of the soils, the "Chaniots" produce the most "tense" wines of the estate. The palate is in harmony with the aromas of the nose, with mineral and citrus notes. Straightforward attack, good length with a greedy taste. Brilliant light gold colour. To make the most of its freshness, this wine should be drunk within two to three years. Due to its structure, it can be aged for 6 to 10 years. It is the ideal companion for dishes "from the sea".
